Pharmacists work to support the vision of the Department of Pharmacy which is “Optimizing patient outcomes through integrated delivery of quality pharmaceutical care\" and the mission of the institution. To provide supervision, direction and coordination of the functions and workflows for the staff. Work with other departments to coordinate the provision and monitoring of pharmaceutical services.

To provide supervision, direction and coordination of the distributive and scheduling functions and workflows for CMC Pharmacy staff.  Work with other departments to coordinate the provision and monitoring of pharmaceutical services.  The manager may, at times, be required to perform the Clinical Staff Pharmacist duties and must meet all requirements of a basic Pharmacist position.

All pharmacists work throughout the Carilion Health System to provide Pharmaceutical Care (The direct, responsible provision of medication-related care for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient's quality of life.) to all patients.
 

* Works with all pharmacy managers to perform daily oversight and monitoring to comply with legal requirements for pharmacy licensure.

* Organizes and oversees the daily activities of the department including staff supervision, work schedules and resource allocation for each shift.

* Works with Pharmacy Distribution to maintain the ordering of supplies and medications within Group Purchasing Organization contract policies compliance levels.

* Appraises and administers annual employee evaluations for direct-line responsibilities in a timely manner.  Assists other managers in the management and evaluation of other personnel.

* Assists the Director of Operations and other managers and directors in maintaining the department and facility for state, federal and JCAHO surveys.

* Provide direct supervision for assigned staff including counseling, coaching and written corrective action as appropriate.

* Supports and assists other managers of the department in supervising and coaching on a daily basis.

* Assists the Director of Operations and other managers with monthly reports including monthly summary and quality reports and departmental PI activities.

* Maintains strong working relationships with Pharmacy staff to maintain high morale and promotion of the department.

* Works with and directs the Scheduler to complete staff scheduling in a thorough and timely manner.

* Works as a Clinical Staff Pharmacist during critical shortages or absences.
 

What We Require:

Education: The Pharmacist must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE). An advance degree or ASHP accredited residency is preferred but not required.
Experience: Three years hospital pharmacy experience is required. Supervisory or management experience is preferred by not required.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensure to practice Pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Eligibility and completion of reciprocity for licensure in the state of Virginia within 90 days of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must be knowledgeable in the basic aspects of institutional pharmacy practice and the detailed and multi-faceted aspects of the position. Requires knowledge and skills of general office equipment, computers and keyboarding ability. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess effective leadership skills. Must possess excellent critical thinking and analytical skills. About Carilion
